Helene Segara was born on 26th February, 1971 in Six-Fours-les-Plages, a small town on the coast of the Mediterranean sea. Her father, Bernar, an Italian, worked in shipyard, and her mother Teresa, an Armenian, worked in tax management From her father, who liked opera, Helene has inherited predilection to singing. After her parents get divorced in 1979, Helene, 8 years old, stayed to live with her mother, but there were a lot of conflict situations. Teresa didn’t share the aspirations of her daughter to become a singer. In a future she’d see her daughter working in government. But Helene declared her mother that she’d sing. At eleven she took part in a contest that she’d won by singing the song "L'amour en heritage" of Nana Mouskouri.

The head of the saw a future star in Helene and said this to her parents. But they didn’t like this idea, because, Helene, as they thought, was too young to begin a career of a singer. At 14 Helene left her mother’s house and moved to her father. A year later she left the school and began singing in bars, restaurants and clubs of the Azure coast. Her repertoire consisted of 1200 French and Anglo-Saxon songs. In 1993 Helene released her single “Loin”, but the song wasn't successful.

In 1996 Helene decided to leave Azure coast and to move to Paris, so as to give herself a real chance to achieve more in her profession. Helene wasn’t able to get used to her new life in the capital. She returned to the South, but few moments later she left the South again. After some listening in different studios she met Fabrizio Salvadori, who acquainted her with Orlando (the brother and the producer of Dalida), who was really impressed by Helene’s voice. He decided to help Helene. He made her to loose 6 kg and to change her appearance. Helene’s first single, "Je vous aime adieu" became very popular and was awarded by SACEM in the spring 1997.

This song later was in Hekene’s fisrt album, "Coeur de verre", with "Les vallees d'Irlande" and "Vivo per lei", the last Helene’s sung with Andrea Bocelli. The circulation of the album was more than 600 000 copies.

In 1997 Helene tried to receive the role of Esmeralda in a new musical “Notre Dame de Paris” by Luck Plamondon and Richard Cocciante. Helene got this role after Noa had refused to take part in performance. Participating in “Notre Dame de Paris” helped Helene in to improve her talents. She was invited to record a song "Loin du froid de decembre" to the cartoon "Anastasia". However, in 1997 Helene had to leave the musical, because during the tour over the Quebec Helene had serious problems with her voice. “During the tour I slept not more than 3 hours at night, while I required 8-10 hours to relax voice; I lost 6 kg, my friend left me and I lost my voice”.

She required an operation. The doctors said that If Helene wants to sing again, she shouldn’t speak at least for three weeks. To recover her voice, she moved to New York and lived there for a long time. While Helene was gaining her strength, her musicians were writing the music for the second album. Helene was not sure if she would be able to sing these songs. But her fears were vain: the single "Il y a trop de gens qui t'aiment", that was released in 1999 got on the top of charts in France, Belgium and Switzerland, and announced the great returning of Helene Segara.

During the whole 2000 the success accompanied Helene. Her second album "Au nom d'une femme" was very popular and there were more than 650 000 copies. Helene got an award NRJ in nomination “The best new French artist of the year”, and then an award at Victoires de la Musique as the artist of the year. In October of 2000 Helene gave 3 concerts in Olympia, passed with a great success. One of them, which took place 24 October, was recorded on audio an video. The DVD and the videocassette were released in summer of 2001, the double CD – in autumn. The 2002’s begun successfully for Helene. That year the Spanish album of Helene was released, which included Helene’s best Spanish songs.
